Lemongrass and Inflammation

October 25, 2011

We have talked about cytokines before here.

“Cytokines are the communication system of the body’s cells of the immune system and beyond.  The cells communicate via cytokines.”

In a recent article by Bachiega and Sforcin, in an animal model study, they suggest that lemongrass extracts can exert an anti-inflammatory action and may be involved in the inhibitory effects on cytokine production. They suggest that a possible mechanism involved in such results could be the inhibition of the transcription factor NF-κB.   A similar result had also recently been shown here with comparable natural herbs.  More evidence that natural ingredients like lemongrass can demonstrate an anti-imflammatory effect.

Lemongrass is a key ingredient in The Wise Herb Company range of products.
