Green Tea and Ginger: Health Benefits
An article in Scientific American demonstrated the various health benefits of Green Tea and Ginger. At the American Association for Cancer Research investigators showed ways in which these natural herbs can fight different types of cancer:
Heavy smokers drank decaffeinated tea, either green or black, daily. The researchers determined that those smokers who drank green tea had a 31 percent decrease in their levels of urinary 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (a marker for free radical damage), suggesting that they were less susceptible to oxidative DNA damage than smokers who drank black tea or the control group.
Also, results presented by Researchers at the University of Minnesota determined ginger root could slow rates of cancer growth in an animal model. Ginger component -gingerol reduced the number of tumours. In addition, any tumors that did develop were smaller. The research suggests that a cancer patient could eat ginger to slow the metastasis [spread] of a non-operable tumor.
