Cardamom and Mouth Hygiene

May 27, 2012

Recently, in a study by Aneja  & Radhika they explored the antimicrobial effects of cardamom extracts on oral bacteria.  Their results suggested that cardamom extracts are effective against oral pathogenic bacteria like Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans.

There is a very interesting possibility that cardamom could be effective as a caries preventive agent.

A letter in the Dental Research Journal suggests its slightly pungent but pleasant taste stimulates salivary flow and the fibrous outer coat helps in mechanical cleansing of the teeth. In short, it has all the benefits of a chewing gum and none of its nuisance.

Cardamom is a key ingredient in the Natural Health Drink YOUNG&FUN!
