Cool Drink

August 22, 2011

It’s hot here in Spain now as Summer finally decided to turn up.  With temperatures in the high 30s (ºC) and high humidity levels we were looking at ways to keep cool.   One of our favourite recovery drinks, Calm&Relax, is packed full of antioxidants and useful for mopping up free radicles.  A closer inspection of the ingredient listing also showed that Hibiscus petals maybe  helping us to “cool down” after a ride.

The Ayurvedic masters also recognised this effect and demonstrated why hibiscus tea tastes so good during the summer months.  In traditional Ayurvedic medicine Hibiscus has cooling properties and is known as a refrigerant.  So, as well as helping with a variety of health conditions Hibiscus can also help us to cool down!

Also, this summer, check out The Wise Herb Company’s YOUNG&FUN for a mind & body refresher!

Made a cold drink at the weekend that seemed to be ideal for two long rides in the heat:

    – Added 700 mls of hot water (90ºC) to two triangles of InnOrbit Up&Go. Steeped for about 5 minutes then removed the triangles.
    – Allowed to cool to room temperature then added about 20-30 ml of fruit juice. In this case it was a Forest Fruits (with fresh red fruits like Strawberry and blackcurrants and also contained apple juice etc.).
    – Cooled in fridge then used in my bidon for the ride. Good energy for the 110 km ride and excellent recovery too. Ready for a ride again already.

Enjoy your fitness and InnOrbit drinks!
