How can food & drink boost immunity?

One of the best ways to keep your immune system strong and prevent colds and flu could be with food and drink.

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables and similar can help you ward off infections like colds and flu because they contain immune-boosting antioxidants.

 What are antioxidants?

They could be vitamins and/or polyphenolic phytochemicals like Catechins.

These nutrients protect and repair cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Free radical damage plays a part in several chronic diseases, including atherosclerosis and cancer.

Free radicals can also impede the immune system.

Fighting off damage with antioxidants helps keep your immune system strong, making you better able to ward off colds, flu, and other infections.

Antioxidants: Where are they?

Adding more fruit and vegetables of any kind to your diet will improve your health.  But some foods are higher in antioxidants than others. The three major antioxidant vitamins are beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E.  Don’t forget that many natural herbs are rich in antioxidants too and could help protect your immune system.  Green tea for example contains natural polyphenolics called Catechins that can mop up free radicals and help to avoid illnesses and chronic disease.
