Pulmonary carcinogenesis could be modulated by Green Tea consumption

February 25, 2012

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are mediators of growth hormones and they have an influence on cell proliferation and differentiation.

Lin, et al studied tea polyphenols and its effects on lung cancer risk and Insulin -like growth factors.

..tea polyphenols could substantially reduce IGF1 and increase IGFBP3

Studies of data from questionaires suggested that,  after normalising for confounding effects, an elevated risk was observed in smokers who never drank green tea.  The investigators suggest that smoking-induced pulmonary carcinogenesis could be modulated by green tea consumption and their growth factor environment.
