Research breakthroughs on Green Tea continue

March 3, 2012

Green tea is used as a base in all the InnOrbit functional drinks.  We have been expounding the positive health benefits of Green Tea on this website extensively and the good news continues with research showing Neuroprotective, Cardio-protective, Anti-cancer and Anti-Obesity effects.

Green Tea – Neuro-protective effects
Qin et al, investigated the potential protection of green tea polyphenols against intracellular amyloid beta-induced toxicity on neurons in an animal model.  Results suggest that Green Tea could be implicated in neuroprotective pathways.
Helping the Heart
Researchers at the University of Heidelberg indicate that Green Tea could be  implicated in the reduction of amyloidosis.  Amyloidosis  refers to a variety of conditions whereby the body produces “bad proteins” and is implicated in many disease of the heart (such as heart failure & arrhythmia).

Anti-Cancer activity
Cancer Prevention by Green Tea polyphenolics is reviewed by Zheng et al.

“Attention has been drawn towards several natural dietary agents such as (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) from green tea etc. This review focuses on the role of key chemopreventive agents on various immune cells and discuss their potential as anti-tumor agents with an immunological perspective.”

Green Tea Consumption and Gastric Cancer Risk was evaluated by
Sasazuki, et al.  Their results indicate that green tea possibly decreases the risk of gastric cancer in women.

Anti-Inflammatory Effects and Potential Fat reduction

A recent article in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine showed that Green Tea as strong anti-inflammatory effects due to EGCG.  The researchers also suggest a novel potential therapeutic role for the prevention of atherosclerosis.  Atherosclerosis is a chronic condition in which an artery wall thickens as a result of the accumulation of fatty materials such as cholesterol.

In a related study Yasui et al, suggest that in addition to EGCG, green tea contains some components which may help to prevent arteriosclerosis and obesity.
