Ginger component Anti-Cancer activity

March 7, 2012

Ginger component 6-Gingerol, has been studied by Yang, et al (Phytotherapy Research Mar 5, 2012) for its anti-cancer activities. The researchers focused their efforts on the mechanisms involved.

In previous studies lysosomes and mitochondria looked like the primary targets for 6-gingerol. Their results suggest that apoptosis is induced by 6-gingerol. The intracellular generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduced glutathione (GSH) were examined. They suggest Apoptosis mechanisms involving cathepsin D and oxidative stress.
