Mint anti-mutagenicity

March 18, 2012

Mint components have significant anti-mutagenic activity. The findings of the study, by Baris et al, indicate that mint flavanoids are important for further focus on drug discovery from plant constituents.

A mutagen is an agent (physical or chemical) that can cause genetic material to change.   DNA is the principal genetic material that is affected and this can increase the frequency of mutations which can initiate various types of cancer.
