An appraisal of medicinal plants with anti-diabetic potential

Khan et al, have reviewed various Ayurvedic herbs & spices and their positive effects on Diabetes.
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder, and treatments have included numerous medicinal plants.

Medicinal plants with anti-hyperglycemic activities are being more desired, owing to lesser side-effects and low cost.

This review by Khan focuses on the various plants that have been reported to be effective in diabetes.  A record of various medicinal plants with their established antidiabetic and other health benefits has been reported.

These include Ocimum sanctum (Holy Basil). All of them have shown a certain degree of antidiabetic activity by different mechanisms of action.
