Natural phenolic licorice compounds: induce Apoptosis in Cancer

April 8, 2012

Natural phenolic licorice compounds have been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells.  Apoptosis is  programmed cell death which can stop cancer proliferating.

Lee et al,  assessed the combined effect of liquorice constituent, licochalcone A and 3-(5′-Hydroxymethyl-2′-furyl)-1-benzyl indazole, on apoptosis in human epithelial ovarian carcinoma cell lines in relation to the cell death process.
The results suggest that 3-(5′-Hydroxymethyl-2′-furyl)-1-benzyl indazole may potentiate the apoptotic effect of licochalcone A on ovarian carcinoma cell lines.
The combination of of these components  may confer a benefit in the treatment of human epithelial ovarian adenocarcinoma.
