Sancha: On The Steep Mountain

June 22, 2012

The terrain got steeper and steeper…we joked that we’d need Oxygen soon as we could see the full panaroma of the Himalayas opening up before us.

The thin air had us wheezing as we could see children playing ahead and their mother Sancha collecting fruit from a small copse.

Living on Mountains of Tea - Darjeeling, India

We’d met Sancha and her family the day before…but 40 km away on a small knoll overlooking her village.

She seemed to have time for all of her children and pick her fruit at the same time. She told us about her mix the day before then led us to a small plant that was instantly recognisible as Mint. Our botanist confirmed that it was Wild Mint a special variety found in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Sancha told us that the mix gave her vitality and the Wild Mint was great for reinvigorating her energy!

Later we talked to the InnOrbit doctor about the ingredients and they confirmed that Wild Mint and Cinnamon found in Sancha’s Herbal Blend were great for energy and maintaining vigour througout the day.

Modern science has confirmed that certain herbs are good at controlling and modulating the digestion of fats and sugars. Also, Wild Mint is a powerful antioxidant and can mediate damage by scavenging free radicals which may also have positive implications for inflammation. This means that Sancha is able to work in her fields longer and recover and go again the next day – whilst running around after her small children.

When we returned to Switzerland we incorporated Wild Mint, amongst other herbs & spices into the UP&GO recipe.
