Ginger & Green Tea: Anti-Cancer, Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Benefits

July 9, 2012

Green tea and Ginger have been recognised to have strong health benefits by the Ayurvedic Doctors.  And now modern scientists are starting to back up what the ancient cultures already suspected!

Components of Ginger (Shogaol) may enhance antioxidant defense mechanism through anti-inflammatory and chemopreventive effects. Bak et al used model systems and demonstrated that Ginger components like Shogaol can mediate oxidative biochemical pathways.

Similarly, Ginger (Zingiber officinale) component 6-shogaol induces apoptosis in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Proteomic analysis by Hu et al revealed that Endoplasmic Reticulum stress was accompanied by 6-shogaol-induced apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Furthermore, 6-shogaol-mediated inhibition of tumor growth in an animal model system.

Work on Green Tea catechins (EGCG), by Berindan-Neagoe et al, suggests that they have the potential to be effective anticancer agents and that EGCG serves as a promising starting point for the derivation of novel anticancer drugs. EGCC metabolite products, such as pyrogallol, gallic acid or quinones, may also play important roles in inducing apoptosis

Ginger and Green Tea are key components in The Wise Herb Company range of natural drink products.
