Lemongrass: Potential Antidepressant Herbal Ingredient with Antioxidant Activity

July 9, 2012

A study was designed by Gacche et al  to evaluate the antioxidant activity and effect of Cymbopogon (a Lemongrass plant) leaves on the activity of monoamine oxidase (MAO), kinetics of enzyme inhibition and evaluate antioxidant potential.

Results suggest that Lemongrass can be considered as a possible source of MAO inhibitor used in the treatment of depression and other neurological disorders. It also appears to show considerable antioxidant activity.

These results may suggest why Ayurvedic doctors have been recommending Lemongrass as a “pick-me-up” tonic for many thousands of years and why The Wise Herb Co. use it in the UP&GO shot ( ), UP&GO, CALM&RELAX, SLIM&FIT and YOUNG&FUN infusion recipes; for mental alertness and to maintain energy & freshness!
