Ginger & Cardiovascular Health: Anti-platelet Aggregation & Vasorelaxing mechanisms

July 31, 2012

In a study by Liao et al the bioactive fractions of the rhizomes of Ginger (Zingiber officinale) were studied.  Ginger is a key component in several products of The Wise Herb Company including: CALM&RELAX, SLIM&FIT and UP&GO.

The identification of over 25 compounds was effected including a new compound, methyldehydrogingerol. The ginger compounds were investigated further to study their antiplatelet aggregation and vasorelaxing bioactivities.

Among the tested compounds, [6]-gingerol and [6]-shogaol showed potent anti-platelet aggregation bioactivity. Also, [10]-gingerol inhibited the Calcium-dependent contractions in high potassium medium.

The results suggest the bioactivity of ginger in relation to anti-platelet aggregation and vasorelaxing mechanisms.
