Amla: Sugar Reducing and Kidney/Liver Protective Effects

September 3, 2012

Sugar Reducing and Kidney/Liver Protective Effects

An investigation by Vasant & Narasimhacharya examined the antihyperglycemic (counteracts high levels of glucose in the blood) and hepato-renal (Liver/Kidney) protective effects of Amla (Emblica officinalis) in induced toxicity.

Amla was studied in an animal model experiment. The results showed that Amla significantly reduced plasma glucose levels amongst other key positive biochemical markers. Liver and kidney antioxidant status was also improved after Amla consumption.

In conclusion Amla could be useful in regulating hyperglycemia and enhance antioxidant status and therefore protect Liver and Kidney tissue.
