Mint and Neuroprotection

October 1, 2012

Ionizing radiation is a potent carcinogen, and can cause damage to DNA in living cells and enhance apoptotic cell death. Hassan et al studied the activity of Mentha (Mint) extracts as a neuron-protective agent in an animal model.  Results, through flow cytometry, suggest that gamma irradiated cells pretreated with Mentha extract showed an improvement in all tested parameters through brain apoptosis and stabilization of the DNA cycle.  The researchers suggest that Mentha extract seems to have a significant role to improve the neuronal injury induced by gamma irradiation.

Mint is a key ingredient of YOUNG&FUN designed to help with Cognitive Function.
