Liquorice: potential treatment for Dermatitis, Eczema, and Psoriasis

Traditional medicines like Ayurveda have been using Herbs and Spices for thousands of years. The types of plants that they have been using in these traditional medicines are becoming more interesting to modern scientists as they could be used in therapies for an array of chronic diseases.

Recent studies by Marianecci et al demonstrate that liquorice extracts are useful in the treatment of dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis, with an efficacy comparable to that of corticosteroids. Murine and human models of inflammation were used. In conclusion, an improvement of the anti-inflammatory activity of the liquorice component was observed on chemically induced skin disease in humans.
