Green Tea Catechins help thyroid hormones aiding hypothyroidism
Catechins are the key polyphenolics in green tea and have many beneficial health effects such as antioxidative & anti-inflammatory properties. Catechins antithyroid/goitrogenic effect has little attention.
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone. Symptoms are, amongst others, fatigue or feeling slowed down, a puffy face, hands, and feet.
Chandra & De studied the effect of catechins on thyroid physiology in an animal model system. The results demonstrate the concept that catechins, tea flavonoids, possess potent antithyroid activity as evidenced from in vivo and in vitro studies.
