Antiarrhythmic effects of (-)-epicatechin-3-gallate from Green Tea

November 6, 2012

(-)-epicatechin-3-gallate (ECG) from Green Tea, has been investigated as a potential therapy for improving heart contractility by Wu et al. Concretely, catechin treatment for arrhythmia was investigated in animal model

Data showed that ECG enhanced the ion gates of heart cells and increased heart tissue firing rate.

Cardiac arrhythmias are any abnormality or perturbation in the normal activation sequence of the myocardium (the muscular tissue of the heart).

The results suggest that Green Tea catechins could help as a potential therapy in clinical applications on cardiac arrhythmias.

Green Tea is used as a base in all of the Infusion recipes made by The Wise Herb Company at InnOrbit.
