Green Tea and Collagen and Mouth Health

The objective of a pilot study by Chen & Huang at the University of Science and Technology (Xianing) was to investigate the effects of Green Tea extract epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on degradation of collagen in dental erosion.

64 volunteers with dental erosion were randomly divided into two groups and given placebo and Green Tea extract treatments in a controlled experiment.

The results indicate that EGCG from Green Tea can inhibit collagen degradation and improve the antierosive effect of dentine and thereby help to maintain mouth health.
