Respiratory Virus, Breathing and Liquorice
Licorice has been used in herbal medicine for hundreds of years.
Licorice is a common ingredient in several traditional medicines like Ayurveda & Chinese medicine and has been proved to inhibit infection of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV).
Feng el al tested the hypothesis that licorice can effectively decrease HRSV-induced plaque formation in respiratory mucosal cell lines.
Results suggest that licorice dose-dependently inhibited HRSV-induced plaque formation in both cell lines.
In conclusion, the results indicate that licorice could be effective against HRSV infection on airway epithelial cells. Radix Glycyrrhizae inhibited HRSV mainly by preventing viral attachment, internalization, and by stimulating IFN secretion. 18β-GA may be one of its active constituents.
Liquorice (Licorice) is a key ingredient in The Wise Herb Company‘s recipes.
