July 21, 2013

Yang et al previously investigated that Hibiscus polyphenol extracts are beneficial for diabetic nephropathy. Hibiscus petals are used in the herbal green tea infusions designed by The Wise Herb Company.

Diabetic nephropathy is kidney disease or damage that can occur in people with diabetes.

The investigators focused on whether Hibiscus extracts could prevent epithelial to mesenchymal transition EMT of tubular cells. Treatments with Hibiscus reduced various symptoms which the investigators discuss in the above paper. Hibiscus extracts recovered morphological changes of cell junction and basement membrane.

In conclusion, the investigators suggest that Hibiscus Extracts have potential to be therapies for diabetic nephropathy.
