Polyphenols of Hibiscus sabdariffa improved diabetic nephropathy

The investigators focused on whether Hibiscus extracts could prevent epithelial to mesenchymal transition EMT of tubular cells. Treatments with Hibiscus reduced various symptoms which the investigators discuss in the above paper. Hibiscus extracts recovered morphological changes of cell junction and basement membrane.

In conclusion, the investigators suggest that Hibiscus Extracts have potential to be therapies for diabetic nephropathy.
